Transport of dangerous goods (ADR)

 The classification of dangerous goods is divided into nine classes according to the type of hazardous materials or items present:
Class 1 – Explosive substances and items
Class 2 – Gases
Class 3 – Flammable Liquids
Class 4.1 – Flammable Solids, self-reactive substances and explosive desensitized solids
Class 4.2 – Spontaneously Combustible Substances
Class 4.3 – Substances, that emit a flammable gas when in contact with water
Class 5.1 – Oxidizing Substances
Class 5.2 – Organic Peroxides
Class 6.1 – Toxic Substances
Class 6.2 – Infectious Substances
Class 7 – Radioactive Substances
Class 8 – Corrosive Substances
Class 9 – Other hazardous substances and items


Dangerous Goods (ADR) are materials or items with hazardous properties, which represent a potential hazard to human health and safety, the infrastructure and/or their means of transport.


Transporting ADR (dangerous) goods is an activity with a certain specificity, due to its nature and type. The persons, who are authorized to carry out  ADR transportation must be well trained for this task. According to the agreement signed with Europe, Bulgaria is also subject to the control of the transport of dangerous goods. As a term, this is an ADR certificate that every driver of such a vehicle must possess. For each ADR shipment to be successfully transported, it must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • ADR declarations
  • MSDS declaration – a technical document providing information on the product, storage and use, safety measures
  • IMO declaration, if the route of the shipment is by water /eg shipment to England/.
